Finally got in contact with the SHC after calling/emailing for two weeks. The front desk was extremely rude as usual. Once transferred to the head of the billing department she did nothing but chuckle at my questions even though they were the ones who asked me to call them. If you’re a student, NOBODY in the department will EVER call you back if you leave a message so don’t waste your time. During the two week span I left a message on every head departments contact number and never received a call back. (Shocker)

It depends on the doctor or nurse practitioner you get to see and which nurse is working with them that day. I worked there several years ago and some were awesome but others were just there for the pension plan, or so it seemed. The nurse practitioners were always great and emphasized the importance of women's health and they were also what I would consider teachers in that area. If I were a student and had access to them, I'd choose to see one of them rather than any other GYN Dr. They do (or did) have strict protocols on how to treat certain conditions and adhere to that for the most part. Most diagnoses get a referral to a specialist so other than women's health or something minor, I wouldn't expect any aggressive treatments for major conditions.

Honestly, I would stay away from this place and go to a walk-in clinic instead. They are extremely unprofessional. I had a deep open wound on my foot and had to get an X-Ray. The X-Ray technician didn't have anything to show that it was my right foot on the X-Ray, so instead she puts a DIRTY paperclip on my foot next to an open wound. Not only that, but she kept poking at it as well with the paperclip. My foot needed stitches at the time, but they failed to do that. Almost three weeks later and my wound is still split open. Save yourself the time and money and dont go here.

It is actually ironic they ask you to send them an email so they can send you something. I highly doubt they do such, as my complaint is specifically due to them blatantly ignoring and not answering the great deal of emails I sent them during the two week time frame.

Went in for a referral to get my tonsils removed. Ended up leaving an hour and a half later with a diagnosis for mono which later proved negative. It's been a week since my visit to the Student Health Center and they still can't give me a diagnosis. My symptoms have only gotten worse since my visit as well. Will never go back to the SHC again.

As an employee and former student of The University of Alabama I advise every student to avoid the SHC as they do not care about any student that seeks their help, and will treat you like you are nothing.

One of the best experiences I've had with a Doctor. Seemed to really know what he was talking about and didn't explain it to me like I was dumb.
